Interesting to see your translation and summary of this book, which was an influence on the early books I write about, i.e. English conduct manuals and etiquette guides, c1600-1900. Moderation remained a key virtue in the English/British tradition of polite behaviour for 3 centuries. Not sure it's so well-respected today?

I wish it were still in fashion… 😉

I was thinking, "What an amazingly good translation this is!", and you're the author, my heartfelt congratulations to you, dear fellow 'Stacker! And what a great post; this book is more modern than it looks.

Thank you for your kind words! Since I'm not a professional translator, I used Copilot to assist with the translation. I tried out several versions to refine it and make it as close as possible to the original text. You're right—the Galateo is still very relevant today, and I found that if you know Italian, it’s not too difficult to read. I’m also working on a second article that highlights some of the more entertaining aspects of the text. I hope you’ll enjoy it too! :)
